Valentine White Out

I thought that an all white table
for Valentine's Day
was appropriate with all of this
cold,
snowy,
icy weather
we are all experiencing.
I used my favorite
Battenburg
lace tablecloth
and mixed in
gold, silver and
antique silver candlesticks.
The gold napkins set off the One King's Lane plates
embossed with a crown
and a Fleur-dis-lis on the charger.
The gold in the flatware
from World Market
compliments the gold tones.
I was fortunate enough to have our
house guest take these photos for me!
You can see Alex's adorable blog here.
To add texture and shine
I used my favorite goblets
passed down in our family
from my great grandmother.
What is that I see on the left?
A hint of color?
Purple tulips in a white ironstone pitcher.
Not the traditional Valentine
red rose
but somehow more wistful this time of year.
The promise of Spring!
Tulips have a way of deciding
where they want to go.
That's what I love about a
mass arrangement
like this.
No planning,
just plunk them in the pitcher
and watch them reach
towards the sun.

My Angel wings from Decor Steals
have made an unexpected appearance.

Dessert and tea are set up on the buffet.
Perhaps the wings
are guarding
dessert from my children!

  I had a heck of a time
keeping them out
of the heart shaped,
chocolate dipped
shortbread cookies!
But, truth be known,
I had a hard time
resisting them
myself!
More tulips in Silver this time.
A Silver tray
with sugar and creamer
and the cookies under glass.
Another Decor Steals goody...
This beautiful carved tray
that I gilded with gold.
Delicate tea cups
and saucers with gold trim
await tea time.
I picked up these sweet luncheon napkins
at the
Mission Road Antique Mall
last weekend.
It was an afternoon date with Mr. Beaux.
Lunch and a stroll through the Antique Mall.
That's my idea
of a fun afternoon!
I have been saving these Limoges dishes
for a Spring tablescape
but somehow they managed
to sneak into this post.

Hungry yet?

Hope you are spending Valentine's Day with those you Love!
Stay Safe and Warm!

Hostess Chair for the Kitchen Table

Happy Monday, Everyone!
I hope you all had a spectacular weekend.
Our temps were a bit better than they have been
for the last month,
so my BFF and I got out and made our Estate Sale Rounds.

I think that I mentioned briefly to you all that I took a full
time desk job.  No, I wasn't out looking for a job for sure.
Mr. Beaux's Logistics company is getting
 increasingly busier by the month.
He needed a full time Office Manager/Assistant
and I offered up my help.
I thought it would be temporary...
That was about six months ago and I think I made the
terrible mistake of doing my job too well!
I really do like working there though
and I especially like all of the great people in his office.
I am really having fun but my Estate Sale-ing
is now limited to Saturday mornings and everything is
already picked over.
ANYWAY... We were striking out at the Estate Sales and we
decided to run over to one of our favorite haunts:
 Revival Furniture Store.
It is a treasure trove of consignment furniture
 and accessories.
I spotted this chair when we first walked into the store
 and I fell in love!
It's an older wing back chair that they had
newly recovered in a Waverly fabric.
I did some research online and the pattern is called Olana-Gold.
Wait until you see the best part of the chair.
Look at her beautiful exposed ladder back.
I don't think I have ever seen an exposed back wing chair.
I was taken as soon as found her.
I was just a little concerned that it might be
a tad too bright for me.
So, I sat down and picked up the price tag.
Oh Yeah!  She was coming home with me!
I couldn't believe the price.  Only $158.00.
Now, it's not the bargain of the century but I think that is a
pretty good price for a newly reupholstered chair.
I love the sweet yellow and cream check that they coordinated with the Waverly fabric.
We loaded her into the car and took her home.
I was still a little nervous about the colors.
We got her into the kitchen and stood back for a look.
I really loved the way it punched up the
table and the kitchen area.
I only had one concern.
Is it competing with this chair in our Hearth Room?
I don't know why I was agonizing
so much over the whole thing.
I guess I am just more of a quiet, subdued person
and when this loud gal entered the room
it took me a while to get used to her.
Look at her sweet little legs though
and how they left them all dinged up and scratched.
She's like one of those people you meet that are a little too
loud and maybe abrasive at first
but it is only because they are
overcompensating for their own perceived shortcomings.
I end up loving those people the most!
They usually have a heart of gold!
The more I look at her the more I love her!
But I do have some ideas on how to tone her down a little.
I pulled this fabric out of my stash.
A lumbar pillow would be great in this fabric.
Or maybe this red and cream check would do the trick.
And I have been saving this fabric to make
 curtains for the kitchen window.
That would bring more color over to that side of the room.
Or....
And I can't take credit for this idea as it was my BFF's...
taking the check from the back of the chair and making a
pillow out of a large Buffalo Check.
I love that idea!
Here is a wonderful Buffalo Check from Calico Corners.
Whatever my solution is she is staying put for now...
My eyes are increasingly adjusting to her while I figure out
how to turn down the volume a bit.

Until Next Time,

Over the Top Decorating

No, I'm not talking about decor dripping
with over the top gilt and embellishment.
I'm simply talking about decorating the tops of my cabinets.
It's a neglected area that I sometimes forget about
but I tackled it this weekend and wanted to share the results with all of you.
What prompted the redecorating frenzy was the purchase of these two new covered vegetable bowls at an Estate Sale.
I wanted to display them in my hutch and
started moving things around.
Well, you know how that goes...
Everything came out and onto the island and the
redecorating began!
I love to tackle these projects first thing in the morning while the caffeine is still buzzing around in my system.
Everyone is still asleep and they wake up to total chaos.
When I took my Rooster down to display on top of my dish cupboard there was a bare spot.
It was a great opportunity for a total makeover.
And here it is After.
I decided to carry the All White theme over
to this side of the kitchen.
I am kind of pre-planning for the holidays.
I mixed a variety of white dishes, old and new, along with ironstone pitchers and gravy boats.
On the other side I mixed plates and platters with teacups, pitchers and my white rooster.
A galvanized bucket filled with the last of my hydrangeas from the garden rests in the corner.
I had to raise the space over the cabinets a bit so I found a couple of shelves from the office that I had taken out and propped them up with some scrap wood.  A shoe box sits under the large pitcher and if you look really really close you can see some red peeking out.
I repeated the same thing on the other side.
Boy was I tired of climbing up and down
to get everything just right!
Changing the decor above the cabinets
meant changing up the counter tops!
I hung some ironstone plates in the bay window on both sides.  I love the soft yellow wall color against the white plates.
And I brought in my lavender plant and
planted it in this large white bowl.
Let's see how long before I kill this plant!
This is one of my new favorite finds while Estate Sale-ing.  I'm happy that I have a prominent place to display it.  It has the initials NH on it.  I started thinking, wouldn't it be funny if it was just a decorative piece from Nell Hill's?  Kinda like the Friends episode where Rachel tells Phoebe that all of her new Pottery Barn pieces are antiques!
A pretty floral and embossed platter adds subtle pattern to the all white dishes.
And a tiny cutwork dish (another vintage find) holds my rings and jewelry when I do dishes.
Won't this area be a perfect canvas for Christmas decorating?
Next up on my to do list is
to make a balloon shade for this window.
I have had the fabric for over a year!
And for those of you who were wondering....
I asked for advice in my last post
See HERE
I went with the majority vote and removed the new rug from under the kitchen table.  I loved all of your input and ideas!  Thanks!
The rug will be finding a new home somewhere else.
Until Next Time,
Beaux R'eves,
XO Cindy
