I am so excited to share
my new/old chair with you today!
Miss Beaux (she is on Fall Break)
and I picked it up yesterday
in the rain.
Boy it just rained and rained
all day yesterday!
They even had to cancel
the Royals playoff game.
GO ROYALS!!!
We will be watching the game tonight
in our Hearth Room
with the addition of our New Chair!
YAY!!!
OK, notice the strategic staging
of the burning bush branches
in the Pottery Barn urn...
It is covering up my exposed wiring
that is waiting for it's new sconce...
The painting is my all time favorite painting
that Mr. Beaux's grandmother painted.
I'm putting it somewhere else
but I thought it looked pretty there for my photo.
OK, let's look at the BEFORE.
Poor chair is only 6-7 years old
but has been through the wringer
with the addition of my oldest son's
new puppy a few years ago.
It became his favorite chair!
He is a big hound dog
and he thinks
he is a lap dog like my bubs.
We tried to clean the chair
many times and it finally became threadbare.
Without the arm covers,
you can see that he chewed
a hole in it by accident.
He was chewing a rawhide bone
and chewing the chair at the same time.
I debated for a long time whether
or not to buy a new chair
or recover this one.
Here were my thoughts...
This chair is made by a very reputable company: CR Laine.
They make very well constructed furniture.
The chair was still in very good shape
except for the fabric.
If I spent the same amount of money
on a new chair that I would spend re-upholstering it,
I would end up buying a new chair
within a year or two
because it would not hold up.
When I picked up my chair yesterday
I was talking to the owner
about the dying art of the reupholstering business.
It is hard to find someone
that you trust to do a good job at a reasonable price.
Linen |
Biscuit |
Once I decided that I was going to recover
the chair I had to pick out a fabric.
Choices, choices, choices.
I wanted something neutral
that I could add different pillows
and colors to depending on the seasons.
It also had to coordinate with the new sectional.
I plan on re-painting in the Hearth Room
so that wasn't so much a factor.
I finally decided on the large buffalo check
from Calico Corners.
I thought that it would be a statement chair
but still be neutral enough for me.
I swear I had the Linen color above
all picked out and ready to order!
But for some reason I just wasn't happy with it
and I ordered the biscuit which is
a warmer butterscotch tone.
I really am a warm toned person
at heart and being surrounded by reds
and golds and warm greens just makes me happy!
I'm so glad that I made this choice!
And look at what a great job they did!
The lines match up perfectly!
See my new pillows too?
Remember the Estate Sale
where the lady was a designer
who made the slipcovers for the tiny ottomans?
She made these wonderful pillows too!
It's a Schumacher fabric called
Le Toile du Marche in gold.
It retails for $114.00-$200.00 a yard
online at a discount place.
WOW!
I bought four pillows
and the extra fabric for $75.00.
I would say that was a pretty good deal!
Here is the other scene.
It's a tad blurry. Sorry about that!
It's all coming together nicely I think.
Little by little...
Let's look at the Before And After of the chair...
OK, time to get settled in for the Royals Game!
Until Next Time,
Beaux R'eves,

stunning I have a chair I want to cover as well but its like you said finding someone to do it-love dee
I love how your chair came out, it's very pretty! You have been busy! I haven't seen your white sectional before now. It all looks so pretty and inviting together.
I am local to KC, would you mind sharing who did your upholstery work? I have a couple of pieces I have been thinking about doing and now you have inspired me? GO ROYALS!!!
Love love love it and LOVE your new pillows too!! That last shot of the room looks so pretty!
Love it! The chair, the fabric you chose, the pillows, and your beautiful family room! It all looks so cozy!
I love your chair and the fabric....also the pillow fabric. I have two matching chairs that are preparing to be recovered. The chairs are about ten years+ old but the early years were at our vacation house. Now they are at home and used everyday. The chintz needs to be recovered....so seeing your large check really inspired me. I have looked at so many fabrics and have not committed to anything. Love your buffalo check!

The chair is so pretty. I have a chair that needs to be reupholstered too. It's my husband s favorite. I don't know where to have it reupholstered. I had a slipcover made for my sofa a year ago and was not happy with her work, so I'm a little leary about having my chair done. Guess I have to start asking around. Enjoy your chair!
Love the chair-great fabric and it looks so great in your room!
I love your family room and its warm ambiance.
Do you have the name of the paint color? Is it a linen shade or more yellowish.?
Its whole ambiance is very appealing.
The chair and ottoman look so beautiful in the butterscotch color. Your family room looks so warm and cozy. Finding someone who does re upholstery is difficult. When you find someone good you have to hang onto them.
Beautiful transformation....beautiful chair in such a beautiful room!!!
The chair looks amazing! Gorgeous, fabric!
How pretty, Cindy! I have a chair that needs to be recovered. My bestie has given me a wonderful resource; and I hope to have it done before Christmas! Those places get really busy this time of year!
The color and pattern are perfect! looks great in your room. love the new look!
Lovely room!
you're making me re-think buying new chairs and recovering them instead. so happy I chanced upon this post.
I do love making something new out of something old!! The chair looks glorious in your room! I'm about to recover a chair of my own - a rather less professional job but loose covers are simple enough! Lovely fabric too! J9 x
Love it Cindy! I just swapped out my living room curtains with identical buffalo check fabric. I still need to get a cafe curtain as well before I share though. Thanx for partying at THT!
