Laying the Groundwork

They say that a rug is the foundation
of your design scheme
and can harmonize and visually connect
all of the elements in your room.
That's why it is best to start your design inspiration there...
Laying the groundwork so to speak.
After Christmas I started looking
for a new rug for the Hearth Room.
JCPENNEY
My sectional is so neutral
that anything can blend with it
and my hardwood floors are a medium dark
warm tone that will
coordinate with most designs.
That only leaves my Buffalo Check chair
and ottoman that I recently had recovered
which is also neutral.
The rug that I previously had in there
I had purchased about ten years ago.
It is a great quality rug
and it has held up very well.
But it had mostly reds and golds in it
and I wanted to introduce more blue
into my rooms this year.
I am certainly going to keep it
so that I can rotate the rugs with the seasons.
I found this rug on Birch Lane's website
and I liked it but I wasn't sure
that it had enough blues in it
and it was a little more than I wanted to pay.
I searched and searched
around on the internet
until my eyes were blurry!
Finally, on New Year's Day
I was cleaning the house and making sure
all of the Christmas things were put away.
The house looked a little barren
and stripped down
and I was tired of cleaning
so I took off to Home Goods.
Now I told you that I had been cleaning
all day so I had my yoga pants
(that have never seen a minute of yoga)
on and a sweatshirt and not a stitch of
makeup and my hair pulled back.
I start shopping at Home Goods
and I begin to notice that
all of the shoppers are dressed
EXACTLY like ME!
MY PEOPLE!!!
YAY!!!
Anyway, I see this 100% Wool 7X9 rug
hanging on the rack for only $299.00.
It was PERFECT!
I love that it has some reds and light greens
in it too which makes it easier
to blend lots of things I already have with it.
Sometimes you just get lucky don't you!
Did you know that all wool and silk rugs
have a "Light" and "Dark" side?
My rug guy told me that years ago.
http://rugchick.com/the-dark-side-of-the-rug/
It has to to with the direction of the pile.
I have never forgotten that
and now I always look to see
which side I want to show...
Pottery Barn
I had a few Pottery Barn gift cards
from Christmas so I ordered two
of the camel colored Chenille pillow
covers and a pretty throw.
They came in the mail today.
Perfect timing!
Now I just have to get it all together
before our Realtor Open House next Tuesday!
YIKES!

Until Next Time,

The Rest of the Hearth Room

Yesterday we left our tour
in the Kitchen Dining area.
I was showing you all
of the updates that I had
in place for our Graduation Company.
Did you notice the Tole
plates that I hung up?
How about that for $4.00 of colorful impact?
They make me happy
whenever I see them.
And we are in this room the majority
of the time so that's a LOT of happiness!
I hung up my ironstone plates
on either side of the French Doors.
The top is a lid for one of my covered dishes.
New pillows spruced up the sofa...
I ordered the Saffron yellow pillows
from Jane.com  for $13.95
and the Coral pillows are from Home goods.
My chair that I rescued
from our Colorado house
sits next to the sofa.
The colors match perfectly.
More new pillows
on the comfy chair
that everyone fights for
in the family.
Cute little birdies in perfect colors!
My new Estate Sale handmade basket
is holding vintage wool throws
that I usually pick up for $3-$5 apiece.
Do you see more new pillows
in the background?
I just can't seem to help myself!
More of the coral color in a pretty design.
Some people don't even notice the changes...
I also changed out my wool rug
for my seagrass rug.
It will stay this way until late Summer
when I get an itch
to start moving inside again
and decorate.
Right now,
I just want to be outside in the yard.
We also have a ton of traveling to do this Summer...
Last of my changes...
I found this cute copper cow...
but I need one more piece to hang above it.
To match the other side...
Well, thanks for coming over for a visit!

Until Next Time,
Beaux R'eves,
