Estate Sale Friday!

I would normally say Happy TGIF
but in my case it is Happy ESF!
Happy Estate Sale Friday!
I love Fridays when I can grab a Starbucks
and take off first thing in the morning
for my Estate Sale rounds.
I could wish for better weather
but I don't want to push my luck...
I would rather wish for bargains and great finds!
And I am happy to report
that I found some this Friday!
This is the first house that I went to.
The sale was advertised on Estatesales.net as
"Quality in South Leawood".
The home is for sale
so I am guessing
that they are moving to downsize.
I love Estatesales.net.
I remember the good old days
when my BFF and I would grab
a newspaper and circle the Estate Sales
and print out the directions.
Isn't this a great house?
This is a photo from the MLS listing.
You can see the whole thing here:
Sorry about the Iphone photos.
So, I waited in line and walked into
this gorgeous French Country Home
that was professionally decorated to the nines!
Look at those toile curtains
leading into the great room!
Another MLS Photo.
Look at those hardwood floors!
And I am not the hugest fan of wallpaper
but I do like traditional when it is done right.
In the great room the tapestry
over the fireplace hides something
we all have in our homes.
The Television!  Clever!
I liked the kitchen,
but it was a tad dark for me.
I did find a couple of
goodies in there though...
These little Tole trays were $1.50 each.
Miss Beaux commented on them
when she got home from school,
"You really like those trays don't you?"
I guess I do have an obsession with them.
But can you blame me?
And this little guy is going in my black hutch,
joining his other bunny friends.
Isn't he a cutie!
At the next house
I found this bolster cover from Nell Hill's.
My BFF and I are going there this weekend.
The bolster was originally priced at $26.00
but the Estate Sale price was...
$8.00 but wait!!!
It was half off day
because the sale was ending today...
$4.00!!!
Here are some things that DIDN'T
go home with me although
I wish they did.
Lovely French Display Cabinet for $1,500.00
Another small cabinet
with a mirror for $895.00.
This would be cute in a
bathroom with glass doors.
I really wanted these white Staffordshire Statues.
But, my maximum I will pay is $50.00
and they were $115.00.
Sigh
That's OK,
I am happy with my $14.00 worth of
Estate Sale fun finds!
I hope you have a fabulous weekend!!!
Until Next Time,

I Pulled The Rug Out From Under...So To Speak

As you know,
a lot has been going on around here this week.
Progress is being made on the Hardwoods
in the Master
and I am still in my Spring Cleaning Mode.
This weekend we were moving things out
of the Master so that they could start on the floors
and also getting ready
for Sweetheart pictures at our house.
That means 12+ Kiddos at our house
AND their parents!
I was sprucing up the Dining Room
with some flowers...
I bought these pretty Hydrangeas at Costco.
I can't wait for mine to bloom this year!
I am going to try to get some blues going...
I have some stuff pinned on Pinterest
so hopefully it will work.
Anyway, I digress...
Because we are all dreaming
of Spring at this point aren't we?
Oh, right, I was thinking...
that I would really like to move this rug out of the room.
I wanted a change
and what better time than when Mr. Beaux
was in a moving mood.
These pictures were from
when we had our home listed for sale last Spring.
You can see that the rug matches the stair carpet.
I needed a large rug
and the prices were outrageous!
It was a lot more cost effective
to have a 9X12 rug made at the carpet store.
I picked the matching border
and they bound and backed it with felt.
I Love the Stair Carpet
but I was tiring of the rug
under the dining table.
I want something lighter.

Mr. Beaux and I started to move the table
and he tweaked his back!
Uh Oh!
I called in Miss Beaux to the rescue
and we got our furniture movers out
and the two of us moved the table.
Mr. Beaux protested the whole time
but we didn't let him lift a finger.
All I need is for him to be laid up on my sofa!
I am really happy right now
with these bare floors!
Besides,
with all of the dust happening
it is a good thing!
There are a few other things on my list
for this Dining Room.
First, I am looking for a new Chandelier.
When we built the house 11 years ago
I was living in California
and the Mr. was working here.
I would have to fly in
and make all of the decisions
on the house in a weekend.
Not having any idea of sources in the area
I was kinda stuck with what was offered.
I am so over this bowl fixture!
But at the time it worked.
Second, I need to reupholster these chairs.
I am tired of the pattern.
Mr. Beaux won't let me do it myself!
I don't have enough time,
blah, blah, blah,
I hate it when he is right!
At least it is not a long list!
As you can see,
I am still practicing my photo skills
trying to capture what is outside
while still taking a good interior photo.
How am I doing?

Until Next Time,

What To Do When You Come Up Short

I scored the BARGAIN of the century with my
beautiful silk drapes that I found at an Estate Sale.  I couldn't believe how well they matched my Hearth Room furniture and waited patiently to hang them when
we got back from our short trip to Colorado.
Even more exciting was that I also found the hardware
(well most of it) at the same Estate Sale for only $8.00.
I gave Mr. Beaux instructions on precisely
 how I wanted them hung.
He did a great job except:
I came up a little short!
Now you are correct, I should know better.
I should have measured first and anticipated this disaster.  But, hey, I'm human.
I DID measure the drapes
when I brought them home.
I just forgot to measure the space they were going into.
I got busy and started doing other things and just assumed (always gets me into trouble) they would be long enough.  Well, now what to do?
Make some choices that's what!
What to put at the bottom of the curtains
 to make them longer...
1.  JoAnne's Fabric, kind of burlappy and nubby.  I really liked this but it wasn't on sale like I thought it was so I put it back.
2. Calico Corners, a larger check/plaid in the same color way as the edging.  Nah, a little too bright for me.
3. From my fabric stash.  Someday I will actually use this fabric but not for these curtains.
4. Calico Corners, I thought that a stripe might blend in but it got too busy.
5. Fabric stash again.  OMG, I think this might be PERFECT!!!  It's got the same colors, it's silk, I like that it's darker and will ground the curtains.  This fabric is from Beacon Hill.  I designed the most gorgeous drapes for a client with this fabric.

I measured the width of the curtains and cut the fabric.  I folded it in half and ironed it on the fold.
I cut it in half on the fold.
I ironed a small hem in the fabric and sewed it.
Straight line sewing is about all I can do!
I pinned the fabric on the curtains, right sides together.
That I do remember from Home Ec.
 Ta-Da!  One side done!

Here is the top of the rod that Mr. Beaux hung up for me.
I bought the rod and 4 finials for $8.00 and bought the rings and the brackets at Lowe's.  I know that they don't match EXACTLY but when it's up there you really can't tell.

Cost for my All Silk Curtains:

Panels:               $15.00 each
Dry Cleaning:  $13.00 each
Rod:                    $8:00
4 Brackets
and
14 Rings:           $20.00
Fabric:              $0.00

Total:                $42.00 per panel

Not too shabby!
