As you know I do a lot of Home Staging
for a Realtor friend of mine.
We were staging a home today
getting it ready for the photographer
to take his photos tomorrow.
In most of the homes that I stage I try
to use the homeowners own things.
People usually have enough things
(usually too many) that I can tweak for staging.
What I was noticing today
was how many small items this
homeowner had on hand.
My usual rule of thumb for staging
is that if it is smaller than a football
then put it away, it is too small!
Let me show you a few examples...
This is a home that I staged a few years ago.
See all of the small things on the shelves
and on the fireplace?
See the small pictures on the wall?
It just ends up looking like clutter.
Lots of clutter!
It is distracting for potential home buyers.
Unfortunately, they can't see past
all of the "stuff" to see the bones of the home.
I decluttered, and only used larger accessories
and see how much better the space looks!
Clean, light, bright!
This home sold in just a few weeks.
Here is an example in my own home.
Lots of little things...
It's a little cluttery!
I cleaned it all up used one large piece
instead for a bigger impact.
A much cleaner look.
This is another home that I staged in December.
Lots of things on the hutch that didn't relate.
Cleared off it looks a LOT better.
This is the kitchen dining area in the same home.
Again, lots of little things that didn't relate.
Really guys, I don't make this stuff up!
This is the way it was when I got there.
And After...
The moral of the story is
"Don't be afraid to bring large
accessories into your home"
whether you are
selling or just refreshing your space.
The impact will be HUGE!
