We Have A Winner!

I want to fill you in on everything 

that has been going on lately.  

I hate when I am "absent" 

and unable to let you know what is going on.  

My sweet Summer girl has been very sick.  

She is a Cocker Spaniel and she is 16 years old.  

She has lost a ton of weight 

and has had all kinds of problems.  

We were convinced that she had cancer 

and we were ready for the grave news 

this week during an ultrasound.  

But it turns out that she has Cushing's Disease 

and there is medication for it that will 

get her all healthy again!   

The signs and symptoms were almost 

the same as bladder cancer.  

I am so grateful that she will soon 

be back to her old self!  

Between caring for her and 

having a ton of 

"Showings" for the house

I haven't had a minute 

to do any blogging.

That's her on the left.  

She is such a sweet girl!

Using Larger Accessories in Your Home

As you know I do a lot of Home Staging 

for a Realtor friend of mine.  

We were staging a home today 

getting it ready for the photographer 

to take his photos tomorrow.  

In most of the homes that I stage I try 

to use the homeowners own things.  

People usually have enough things 

(usually too many) that I can tweak for staging.  

What I was noticing today 

was how many small items this 

homeowner had on hand.  

My usual rule of thumb for staging 

is that if it is smaller than a football 

then put it away, it is too small!  

Let me show you a few examples...

This is a home that I staged a few years ago.  

See all of the small things on the shelves 

and on the fireplace?  

See the small pictures on the wall?  

It just ends up looking like clutter.

Lots of clutter!  

It is distracting for potential home buyers.  

Unfortunately, they can't see past 

all of the "stuff" to see the bones of the home.  

I decluttered, and only used larger accessories 

and see how much better the space looks!

Clean, light, bright!  

This home sold in just a few weeks.  

Here is an example in my own home.  

Lots of little things...

It's a little cluttery!  

I cleaned it all up used one large piece 

instead for a bigger impact. 

A much cleaner look.  

This is another home that I staged in December.  

Lots of things on the hutch that didn't relate.  

Cleared off it looks a LOT better. 

This is the kitchen dining area in the same home.  

Again, lots of little things that didn't relate.  

Really guys, I don't make this stuff up!  

This is the way it was when I got there.  

And After...  

The moral of the story is 

"Don't be afraid to bring large 

accessories into your home"  

whether you are 

selling or just refreshing your space.  

The impact will be HUGE!

Making A Rustic Spring Basket

There is still time before Easter 

to create this easy Rustic Spring Basket.  

Here is what you will need:

A basket - it can be round or rectangular. 

A grapevine wreath
 Fresh Spring Flowers - I used tulips, daffodils, hyacinth, 
and gerbera daisies,  
filler flowers like babies breath

 Green Moss

A nest with eggs

Floral Foam

I placed the wet floral foam 

into the basket inside these "to go" cotainers.  

Then I cut apart a grapevine wreath 

and started winding it around the basket.  

It gets a little unruly 

so just keep working with it 

to get it the way you want it.  

I wound it up around the top 

to make a handle on the top.

Because tulips have delicate stems 

that don't stick into the floral foam easily, 

I placed these dollar store vases 

in the middle of the basket.

I put the tulips in the vases 

and stuck the hyacinth into the floral foam.  

I then started filling in with the rest of the flowers.

Just play around with it until 

you get the look you like.  

I even added some daffodils from my own garden.  

 To finish it off, add some green moss 

around the edges and I added a nest with eggs.  

A cute sign or bunny would be fun too!

The great thing is that you can easily change 

out the flowers in the vases 

when they start to wilt.  

Keep water in the floral foam containers 

and your flowers will last quite a while.
