I love my Friendly Village dishes
that I found at an Estate Sale for a steal.
I get happy when the holidays
roll around so that I can bring them
out of dish storage.
They are perfect on their own
but I also like to pair them with
other dishes to mix it up a bit.
One year I used my Aqua dishes as an accent.
I really loved the way
the aqua picked up the colors in the dishes.
Another one of my favorite place settings
was this rustic table with plaid napkins,
natural elements
and acorn frames used as chargers.
This was such a fun table
that I might replicate it sometime this year.
For a more traditional setting
all of the bling came out of the cabinets.
I used my best silver, crystal goblets and
fancy monogrammed napkins.
The dishes alone are so captivating
with their rural country scenes.
I never get tired of looking at them.
This year I wanted
a more casual look to the table.
I used my green cabbage plates
as an accent and black and white buffalo checked
napkins to keep it less formal.
I loved the way the buffalo check
popped on the white tablecloth.
The green cabbage plates
really brought out the green
in the leaves around the edges of the plate.
Silverware from World Market
seemed like the perfect match for this table.
I placed flowers in mason jars
and wrapped the jars with burlap ribbon
for an elegantly rustic touch.
I lined four of the vases down the center of the table.
With my turkey platter in the middle it was the perfect, simple, casual table!
How many ways have you used your heirloom dishes?

Cindy, what lovely tablesettings! Isn't it wonderful to have a set of "work horse" china that can be so versatile? You've created some real masterpieces!
ReplyDeleteThat aqua just "pops" in that place setting. Great idea!

I absolutely love this table setting. It is so beautiful. Those dishes are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteEach setting is so pretty. I love the frames as chargers.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely settings but your eyelit tablecloth is just stunning to look at. I absolutely love the wood frames as charger plates brilliant idea.Susie
ReplyDeleteI am hard pressed to find a favourite Cindy. I do not have Friendly Village. I almost got a few pieces 6 months ago, and we walked out the consignment shop without it. NOT on purpose....
ReplyDeleteI used on of my brown transferware sets for Thanksgiving as well. We had a simple stress free meal for 6 and s baby :) Brown and cream dinnerware, and I paired red napkins to make the red in the plates pop. With Vintage Wexford goblets and old flatware... mall inherited pieces. Dishes and goblets from my MIL. Flatware from my husband's great grandmother.
Might have to 'borrow' the frames as chargers idea.
Hugs. Gee
OUTSTANDING!!! I love demonstrations on using the same dishes in different ways to achieve different looks. I know a lot of readers - especially those new to tablescaping - truly appreciate this kind of post. I think the more examples given, the better...and you totally came through! I rarely buy something that I cannot think of at least 5 ways to use it while standing there contemplating the purchase. It's one of those quirky things that helps slow my roll when I'm out there running wild with a checkbook! This classic dish pattern is one that will stand the test of time, and you've shown here how to keep the love going. The frames are a really, cool way to update the look and add that touch of rustic, just as the monogrammed napkins and other fine accoutrements really add a touch of pure elegance. FABULOUS touch using the aqua plates to bring out the blues in the Friendly Village!!!!!!!!! And all of the centerpieces are terrific.
ReplyDeleteBravo, Cindy! Merry Christmas to you!!!
Wow! I don't know which one would even be my favorite. They are all so gorgeous. I love how you used them for so many different settings from formal to casual.
ReplyDeleteYou hit the jackpot when you found a good deal on the Friendly Village china, Cindy. I love all the different scenes on the pieces. I especially like it with the aqua, but it looks great with the cabbage leaf, too. BP cabbage leaf plates are so versatile...that is why I collect it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Beautiful tables! Visiting you from Tablescape Thursday.
ReplyDeleteI frequently see Friendly Village while out antiquing but have yet to add any to my vast china collection. You showed me what a versatile pattern it can be. How will I resist next time I come across some?
