How'd I Do? My Estate Sale Follow Up

Yesterday I blogged about my favorite pastime
I gave you tips on how to score the bargains and showed you pictures of an Estate Sale that was happening today.  I bet you are all wondering how it went!
Well, let's take a look at some photos that I took with my phone and find out.

I took off early and had my essentials with me:
Cash, bags, tape measure, snack and water...
At the first Estate Sale run by Treasures Estate Sales things were already moving!
A lady had already bought this beautiful China set and was wrapping it up to take home.  I didn't see the price but boy was she giddy and smiling.
She must have gotten a good deal.
I went searching for the lamp that I Really wanted to buy.
It was a Stiffel lamp with a Leather shade.
I found it upstairs and looked for the price.
  What does it say?
 $95?
Nope!  Darn! $195.00.
They had the original receipt with it too.
She paid $345.00 for it when she bought it new.
I didn't see the date but it was in perfect condition.
I really wanted it but I can't pay that much.
Am I making a mistake in passing it up?
Covered Silverplate bowl-$10.00.  That's a good price.
Cute little teacup set for 6 $10.00.
Those are adorable!
And I would pay $10.00 for the set.
I love these!
Something about these tea towels always gets me!
Reminds me of my sweet Nana's house.
Sweet little flowered China dish.

Let's go down in the Basement.
OK, I learn so much browsing around at these sales.  I never knew there was a flood in 1951 that warranted books being written about it.
Interesting.
Here's a winner!  Can't ya see me sporting this around town?  Yikes!  Exactly what kind of animal has blue skin and patchwork fur?
Apparently Jake got paddled by Jack and Ernie in 1948!
Wouldn't this be fun for cabin decor?
Spooky family!  I actually considered buying this for a Halloween display but $45 was too much.

Pendleton Blanket for $30. It was in the basement storage area.  That's where a lot of cool things can be found.  That's a good deal but I wouldn't pay that much.  I really like the colors though.
Cute handpainted tray.  I liked it but I really only collect Black Tole trays.
Old sled for $15.00.  This would be a great porch display piece.  If I didn't already have one this would have come home with me.

I know you are wondering about the Silver that I showed you yesterday.  Well, they had it listed for sale for $3540.00.  About the same as Ebay.  I talked for a while to the nice gentleman who purchased it.  He said there was no negotiating in the sale.  I asked him what he usually looks for at Estate Sales and he said that he mostly buys Silver and then breaks it up and resells it.  He laughed and said that he also buys things for his house.  I guess it would be hard NOT to look at things for your own home.
And the HUGE Champagne bottles?  I saw a lady walking out with a few of them. We were laughing about their size and wondering if they REALLY had Champagne in them at one time.  We decided that we hoped that they did and that everyone had a Smashing time at THAT party!  I asked her what she was going to do with them.  She told me that she had an Antique Store and she was going to use them as display items.  How Fun!

I bought a few things at the first sale and went on to the second one for the day.  It was a cute little duplex house near where I live.  She had a lot of primitive pieces of furniture.  Turns out she was an Antiques Dealer.
This glass cupboard looked like it used to be an upper or maybe a room divider.  It was cute and rustic looking
Isn't this a nice display?  She had a LOT of blue and white China and porcelain pieces.
This lady did a lot of sewing and made these cute little hankie pillows. Aren't they sweet?  They were only $5.00.   She had a lot of fabric scraps too.
This table was set up in the storage area.  I'm telling you this is where the bargains are!  Lot's of cute Vintage items for only a few dollars.
Suitcases, $10.00 apiece.

So what did I end up buying?
I bought the little flowered dish and some winter greenery at the first sale for $14.00 total.
And at the second sale I found these cute Victorian stockings, the white pillow with pretty delicate lace edges and the adorable cow print.  All for $20.00  Not too bad!

But here is the best part!
If I want I can go back on HALF PRICE DAY which is usually Saturday and see if anything is left!!!

I LOVE Estate Sales!

Until Next Time,
Beaux R'eves,
XO Cindy

  2. Great review, Cindy! I was crossing my fingers for you to get the silver flatware set! It looks no matter how much I crossed them, it was way out of reach! I did check the state sales around my area, hopefully next weekend I'm going to visit at least one!

  3. I have so enjoyed this estate shopping trip with you! I too would've picked up that darling tole tray for $4.....Oohh what a steal!! I lean towards the black also, but I would've made an exception for that one. *winks* That sterling flatware was expensive! I got a similar set for $400....So I think I did good! I hope you'll post if you got back to the half off sale? Good luck if you do! Vanna

  4. Oh P.S. I think you did right in passing on the bouillotte lamp. I think you'll find a better one for less. Granted they aren't easy to come by, *winks* but isn't the hunt most of the fun? Vanna

  7. I go on half off day too. If I go on the first day I end up falling in love with something and make a mistake. I buy a lot for resale so I really must but low. Love the cow.
