Happy Friday!
Goodness, where has the week gone?
I've been really busy with my mom here visiting
but here is a project that I knocked out or
"Knocked Off"
I should say...
Ballard |
After all the Christmas things were put away I started to take a good look at the house and what I wanted to change.
The walls in the Kitchen Hearth Room were looking a little busy to me and I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
I love Botanical Prints and I had spied these on the
Ballard website.
I thought they would be perfect for the space
above my built in's in the Hearth Room.
Here is how the room looked at Christmas time.
See all of the plates on the wall?
Yeah, a little busy.
Especially with the other things happening in the room.
My thought was that two of the prints stacked on each side would be perfect!
Oh, but wait... $150.00 each?
Maybe not.
Well, I'm always up for a challenge
so I remembered a Botanical Book that I had been saving
to cut up and I went hunting for it.
Hmmmmmm, It is an awesome book but
I thought that the prints were a little too small
for my project.
So I kept looking.
I took a trip to the Mission Road Antique Mall
with my mom and Miss Beaux on Sunday
certain that I would find exactly what I was looking for.
Nope, too expensive and too small.
Nope, too expensive and too small.
But I did find other fun things that I will show you later.
On a whim I went to the half price book store
near us and scouted around.
No Botanical books but I did find this awesome
Audubon Birds Of America book for $7.99.
Next to it you see my botanical book.
I went ahead and bought it just in case...
It has really great pictures in it!
I know that there are FREE prints that you can print off
but I wanted prints a little larger
than my printer could print off.
Here they are if you are interested.
I found these on Honeyandfitz blog on a Google search.
The website is http://botanicus.org/.
OK, long story short,
I found pictures in the Audubon book
that were a mix of botanical and birds.
So, I took off to Michaels in search of frames and matting.
I found 16X20 frames that were on clearance for $19.99
and I had a coupon for 15% off which helped with the rest.
I double matted the prints because
I wanted to use the largest frames possible.
The larger vanilla matt had a gold edging that I took out.
And here is the end result.
Sorry for all of the glare!
I think they look pretty close to my inspiration
at a fraction of the cost!
And here they are on the wall
courtesy of Mr. Beaux and his precise hanging methods.
And the other side...
The shed antlers were purchased at the Antique Mall
for $15.00 each.
Everyone was oooohhhhing and awwwwwwing
at the checkout at my bargain hunting skills.
Thank you, Thank you!
The Urns were a Pottery Barn purchase with my gift card.
Oh how I HATE paying retail
Oh how I HATE paying retail
but I really wanted two identical things for this space
and I wanted them NOW!!!
I know you can relate!
And the wide shot.
I am very happy with the balanced, more minimal look.
Especially at a fraction of the cost of Ballard.
Especially at a fraction of the cost of Ballard.
Until Next Time,
Beaux R'eves,
XO

These prints look great! You did very well, indeed.
ReplyDeleteCindy-Those turned out great-love the double matting and I think I like it better than the original because of that- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWith all your ingenuity and style, you've made a perfect, designer look on your walls! Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLooks great and I like the botanicals you used better rhan the Ballard's version.
ReplyDeleteThose look fabulous Cindy!! LOVE the new look, I loved the old look too:)!
ReplyDeleteVery Pretty, Cindy! The prints look great on your wall. I found two of the Ballard framed botanical prints at a thrift store for $7.00 each! I've always had a thing for botanicals.

This is such a pretty room! We are on the same page here, I have been working on copying those same botanicals but have never gotten mine done! It's so nice to see your example, maybe I will finally get around to finishing mine. I loved your gorgeous guest room too, and I just bought the rectangular twin to your round tole tray :) Good thing we haven't been out junking together, we would be fighting over the same things, haha! Loved all of your wonderful inspiration,

Cindy, those look so rich. I love them. BTW, your guest room was in the top three features today.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. I am visiting you via Wow Us Wednesday and I would love for you to stop by :)
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful - the prints, the framing and the placement. My heart about broke when you mentioned the Mission Road Antique Mall! I'm guessing you meant Kansas City and I used to live there, had a booth at the mall and really miss it! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful changes. I love the prints, they look very rich and expensive. Great job!

I had a Dover Publications book that I bought, almost 40 years ago, that had many copies of the Audubon birds with greenery in a large size. I cut out two, had them matted, and framed them in BIG frames that had neutral linens inserts to match the mat I'd selected. The two framed prints have hung in all my dining rooms since then! I have also done the same thing with Dover's Godey Ladies fashion reproduction prints, bound in a book as were the Audubon prints, and vintage poster copies on rrecent calendars! I gotten so many inexpensive pictures that look like a million dollars this way!
ReplyDeleteOh, the Mission Hills Antique Mall--I've spent many hours, and hundreds of dollars, there as well! It is a favorite destination on the rare times that I venture to Kansas City.
I've always wanted to do this, I have the frames just need the pictures, I'll try the antique malls!
ReplyDeletelove these vintage birdies!
ReplyDeletesmiles to you.
