I have always loved Cardinals!
I remember when we first moved from California to Michigan
and I saw my first Cardinal outside the window in the snow.
I was in love.
I took this picture last winter from my kitchen window.
Thank you telephoto lens you kept me warm inside
while I snapped away.
This Cardinal hangs around in a tree right outside the kitchen
for most of the winter.
I watch him as I make coffee or do dishes.
So I thought it was fitting that I filled my dish cabinet
in the kitchen with sweet little Cardinals
that I found last year at Target.
Besides, they fit my red and white decor and dishes perfectly.
I haven't taken my red and white transferware
out of my dish cupboard since I found it
at an Estate Sale this summer.
I have found a few more pieces and I am always hunting.
I like to mix the old and the new, so I placed some
William's Sonoma dishes that I have
in with the red and white.
These are the 12 days of Christmas salad plates.
More "new" with the old.
I'm always afraid of things looking too much like
Grandma's house so I mix it up
until I find the right balance.
Crate and Barrel mixing bowls
and an old Johnson Brother's platter pair well.
Just a little greenery and some fluffy snow
and you get the Christmas feeling.
Little mini stockings from the dollar bin at Target
mixed with a runner from an Estate Sale.
Vintage stockings hang below.
My toile linens are wrapped up like a gift
with a green grosgrain bow.
I think it's going to be Christmas for a long time
in this dish cupboard!
I love this arrangement.
Of course you know that I decorated the top of the cabinet.
More transferware in the lantern and an ironstone platter that I embellished by sticking letters onto it.
Don't worry they will wash off.
My new olive bucket is filled with real and fake greens.
I tucked in a toile pillow for color.
I hung up my new transferware pieces
above replacing the green plates that hung there.
Well, sometimes you have to improvise right?
It's so pretty I can't let it sit in storage.
I hope your decorating is going well.
I loved having the music on and trimming the tree with Miss Beaux yesterday (OK, I had to bribe her with a Starbucks).
We had fun looking at all of the old ornaments
and laughing together.
That's what the season is all about right?
Mixing the old and the new...
and a few Cardinals too!
Until Next Time,
Beaux R'eves,
XO Cindy

How beautiful that Cardinal is! Lucky you to see him from your kitchen window... I don't see birds like that from my San Diego kitchen. Your post is beautiful and completely captures the essence of the season.
ReplyDeleteCiao for now...
Cindy, LOVE your decor! Everything looks so festive and perfect for the season. I think I have the matching mugs to your Williams-Sonoma plates on display in my kitchen...lol! This is truly beautiful...as always!
ReplyDeleteHI Cindy!I love your cardinal - real and faux. Your little hutch is adorable with your red and white dishes. No Grandma look at all. Love the touch of the little stockings.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Cindy, great shot of the cardinal...their bright red is so beautiful against the snow.
ReplyDeleteYour china cabinet looks so festive...I'd leave it up for a long time, too!
So festive! You have styled it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI love watching cardinals, too. No snow here though. They stand out among all the bare trees outside. Love your red and white in the cabinet.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!!! I especially love the little pail/bucket full of goodies. I know what you mean about looking like granny's house. There is a fine line there.
ReplyDeleteCindy you hutch looks fabulous!! Love all your red transferware dishes and your olive bucket looks great! So pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI love how you mixed the old with the new. When we bought our 100 year old house, I tried to put period pieces in, but ended up looking like great-grannie's house, ugh. I learned the hard way, but I learned. Love the little cardinals. We have a bird feeder right outside at my computer desk window and there's sometimes ten or more cardinals at the same time. They love those sunflower seeds. You're red and white is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCindy, you have done a beautiful job of doing up your cabinet. I really like the mixture of vintage and new and, of course, the cardinal is perfect with your red and white dishes!
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteEverything is gorgeous! I love that Johnson Brothers Strawberry pattern. I have been dreaming about finding some and then you DID find it! I am so happy for you! I know how much you love it.
The cardinals are beautiful.....the real ones and the Target cardinals! Enjoy your dishes and beautiful cabinet!
