I'm sorry about the "teaser" in the earlier post. I have had plans to give you a full Kitchen Tour for a while now but the timing was never right. Or, if the timing was right then the weather wasn't cooperating. Today the sun actually came out!!! By the time I grabbed my camera and decided to take pictures I realized that I needed to do a bit of clean-up before having company. Isn't that the way it always works?
So here it is...
Drumroll Please!!!
This is the view walking into the room from the Living Room, Dining Room area. I love the openness of the room. We (my husband and I) designed this house in 2002. Mr. Beaux has a degree in architecture and I am an Interior Designer so it's a great mix. Every detail of this house from moldings to knobs to paint colors were our choices. This was the first time that we were able to build a home from the ground up. In every other house we had lived in there was always something that we desperately wanted to change or something that we ended up redoing to our liking. Not in this house! (OK, I really DO want a Bigger Master Closet).
Here is the same view as we move into the room.
And from the opposite corner you get a full view of the kitchen and dining area. Let me tell you that we really LIVE in this room!!! This is where we eat all of our meals, watch TV, do homework, Blog, and just hang out.
This great table expands to 10 feet. Yep! 10 Feet! See the ends there? They slide out and I have other leaves that slip in to make a 10 foot table.
The island is 8' 3" long. That was the biggest slab of granite that we could get without having a seam.
The barstools are tucked under the island to blend in without being seen. We had other larger barstools with backs before but they always seemed to be in the way. I like these much better. The Corbels are repeated on the island, the fireplace and above the window.
I love the contrasting stains.
The dish cupboards are my favorite design. I love the arched glass doors and the moldings.
We thought for a long time about where to place the Microwave in this kitchen. We decided on this placement mostly because our children were older and it wouldn't be a hazard. With tiny ones I'm not sure this would work out.
I'm thinking about either painting inside the cupboards or wallpapering for some contrast. I really like that look.
These large drawers hold mostly bowls and plastic-ware. Where does it all come from?
More dishes!
The Farmhouse sink and the Rohl faucets get quite a workout as there always seems to be dishes to do. On a trip to Italy we went to Cortina and had a blast buying pottery. The footbath behind the faucet is my absolute favorite piece in our collection. It is NEVER moving from this spot.
OK, the MOST used spot in this kitchen is the coffee center!!! The Keurig and the Nespresso (a Christmas gift from Williams Sonoma) are used all day every day!!! The Nespresso heats and froths the milk just like Starbucks. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Hey, it keeps me out of Starbucks and everyone needs a splurge item right?
The Viking Range had been a dream of mine for quite a while before building this house. We have a pop-up vent instead of a hood over the range to make a spot for the Chandy.
The Viking Range had been a dream of mine for quite a while before building this house. We have a pop-up vent instead of a hood over the range to make a spot for the Chandy.
On our 25th wedding anniversary trip to Italy we had this plate made for us. It makes me happy every time I look at it.
Well there you have it.
Well there you have it.
Thank you for visiting and taking the tour of my Kitchen and Hearth Room with me. I've really enjoyed having you. I truly enjoy each and every one of you and all of your kind comments. I feel like I am inviting you into my home each time I write a post. Like we are sitting down for coffee and I am sharing my recent treasure finds with you or my remodeling projects... Like good friends!!! Speaking of friends, I hope I can figure that Linky thing out soon. Have a great weekend!

What a gorgeous space! Love how open it is!
ReplyDeleteMorning Cindy,
ReplyDeleteYour home is warm and lovely. We have the great room affect as well, and I simple love that design because I really didn't like the feeling of being stuck in the kitchen by myself, or that when people were in the kitchen you were constantly having to have them move out of the way for you to get something. So it has worked well for our family these last 31+ yrs.
Your kitchen is gorgeous and I really love your dome shaped glass
cabinetry. Simply beautiful, and that is a wonderful island as well.
Such an inviting space, and so nice that it is a well loved and used space. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Blessings, and Happy Valentines day to you, Nellie
Your home is lovely and so is your blog. I am so glad I just stumble upon your blog. I am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteCindy what a gorgeous home! I love how open the kitchen is to the hearth room. Such a great family space. I think the plate you had made for your 25th anniversary is lovely and such a treasure. Thanks for sharing your home with us! Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteOk so this was well worth the wait Cindy, and I think it is my dream kitchen!! Everything is just gorgeous! I love the custom details that make it so European. The cabinetry is all amazing and the different colors of stain and paint I am in love with. The chandy is just gorgeous, and I love your island too. What a wonderful room to gather family and friends in. I just love it all!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Beautiful!

Really beautiful, Cindy. Such a wonderful place for family living and gathering together ~ I love it!!
ReplyDeleteCindy, your kitchen/hearth room is 2die4. Absolutely gorgeous. I always like an open concept layout with dark floors. You and your husband are superb in your designs with very planned space. The Corbels are all very ornate and eye-catching. I agree with you loving the arched glass doors and moldings of the cabinets. The Chandy in the kitchen makes perfect sense to me too. I think you get "Kitchen of the Year" Award. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is just stunning!!! Thanks for the tour, it will be featured on Tuesday!

ReplyDeleteI love the open room concept and you did it beautifully. Looks so inviting and perfect for entertaining. Great room. Dianne
ReplyDeleteThis is truly a "dream" great room. I love all the details and the combining of stains, the wall of windows, the chandlier, the glass front cabinets and you have just the right amount of decorative accessories. Ok, I'm going to go look at it again!

STUNNING!! I love it all!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many details to love in this kitchen and great room area. Drool
ReplyDeleteLove this look - everything! I adore that dark wood piece above your sink window area. I have an all brick kitchen and there is an archway above the sink window, but inside the arch is just a piece of stained plywood??? Not sure what that was all about (we didn't build the house) but I love this idea and will try to figure out a way to use that for inspiration!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. And all that space. I am so jealous.
ReplyDeleteI like the openness. Nice job. Jane
ReplyDeleteWow - love the open floor plan! I hear you about getting the room camera ready - I moved a lot of stuff into the dining room to get my kitchen pics!! Love that chandelier - always nice to have a bit of bling in the kitchen! So lucky to do a house from the ground up - isn't it fun! You and the hubs did a superior job.

ReplyDeleteHi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteVisiting you today from MET Monday.
Your kitchen is amazing, its so beautiful! and I adore the color of your cabinets. My husband and I have been working in our kitchen changing a few things and the cabinets are on my list of things I would like to re-do. Your home is charming and how fun for you both to have been able to design it from the ground up. Everything is just gorgeous!
I have become your newest follower.
Have a sweet day, Elizabeth
Your kitchen is beautiful Cindy! I love all the color and accents you have around!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a beautiful space...very well done!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I'm in heaven! You have the prettiest kitchen, dining area and family room combo. It is so well put together. In our next house, we need an open concept like that. We currently "live" in our kitchen too, but it isn't open to the family room and doesn't have all those wonderful bells and whistles. You and your husband are a wonderful pair with your job and his. No wonder you have such a beautiful home!
ReplyDeleteIt's BEAUTIFUL, Cindy!! Those dishes from Italy are beautiful, and they will become even more special with each passing year. I wish you many happy years in your home.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are living my dream! I adore the contrasting stains with your cabinetry. Your thoughtful design truly shows! I enjoyed every minute of the tour!

Fabulous room. I love a window over the sink and a light filled room. LIke your layout very much. Great accessories.
ReplyDeleteOh, my what a wonderful kitchen and family room. Love the two toned cabinets. We have them, too. We designed and built our house, too sixteen years ago and have done many changes since. We are not architects or decorators, but my husband drew up the basic plan on a piece of paper after we did a lot of house touring and put together what we liked at that time. We did a lot of the work on it ourselves plus worked during the day at our full time jobs. Your kitchen is amazing and thanks for sharing at Wow.
ReplyDeleteCindy, What a gorgeous kitchen and family room. Love your cabinets and the different stains. Every detail is beautiful. Thank you for linking to the Open House party.
